What idiot came up with this idea we have of church.

Most churches today are nothing more that a big box building on the side of the road. And we have so conveniently placed God into that box. More >

Practical Prostitutes

I recently saw a sermon called “The Piratical Atheist”.  The quick one line summery is that many people who claim to be a Christian, but the way they behave is more like an Atheist.  So, what is a Practical Prostitute?  More >

“Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

I recently heard a lecture on this passage.  It was used to point out that sometimes God works not on our schedule but on his. I read it again and found a slightly different message in it.
A Dead Girl and a Sick Woman

21When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet 23and pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24So Jesus went with him. The older son

This collection of verses has once again came up in my mind, but with a slightly different view point.

If you know these verses very well, skip to the next two paragraphs.

Just a Thought

Great people do not become great people by doing great things.  They become great, by serving greatly.

poly-ticks: many bloodsucking parasites

Tuesday we will have a run off election to decide the political races that were close recently.  I think I have some good ideas about running for office and what the rules should and shouldn’t be.  So I am going to post some of my rules for political campaigns, or at least what I wish were the rules. Sunday night

It has been a busy weekend.  My sister from Charleston came up Friday and Saturday.  We got together at my local sisters house and ate to much and talked not enough.  We need to do this more often.  Yet the time apart never seems to lessen how much we all care for each other.

Who can I trust?

Ok, the Trust issue has been a big thing lately in my life.  Many people have responded, some feeling sorry for me, but there is a simple answer, and perhaps this is what is trying to be taught to me in these days.

There is someone I can trust and can always trust.  Who?  well this little YouTube flick say a lot.  Please check it out.

The value of truth

Several weeks ago it was determined that a piece of equipment at work would be needing a new part to keep it working, a light bulb. Now this is no regular light bulb, it cost about $280. A co-worker said he would take care of getting it and I told him that when it came in to let me know and I would change them out.

A few days latter I followed up on the order. He said that it had been ordered and I suggested that he contact the Finance Dept to make sure it was on the way. He said he would.

Well this week the working bulb quit working and there was no replacement. He scrambled to get one ordered. In other words, he lied to me.  Truth has little value to him.

Who is my neighbor?

Love the Lord, your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment, and the second is like the first Love your neighbor as yourself.

Truth, honesty, and friendship

I have recently had to deal with this topic where I work. I have a co-worker who was once also a highly regarded friend. While they are still a co-worker and still as I understand are doing there job very well, they are not someone that I can now refer to as a friend. Because of the lack of truth and honesty, a friendship is lost.

A call from a good friend

It’s Saturday morning and I am not at my computer typing this post. Nope, to be honest this came to me not 5 minutes after I posted the last blog.

I got a call from a good friend; we are getting together with a few others for breakfast and well just to spend time together. This will be good; no one of can face the world alone. We need each other, not only so that they can help me, but so that I can help them when they need help.

Honor is not what you do, but how you do it.

This has been a wonderful day. It started off kind of ruff, left overs from the day before, but things got better as the day went on. Around 2:15, a little over 1 hour left in the work day, it got really good. Why? Well this is what God showed me. More >
